Pension Credit is a benefit you can claim in the UK aimed at providing extra income to pensioners who are on a low income.
You may have heard that the new Chancellor will only pay the winter fuel allowance to pensioners who are receiving Pension Credits. In which case make sure you claim, if eligible, and pass on this message to elderly relatives or friends who may be able to make a claim.
According to the latest available estimates, approximately 850,000 eligible pensioners in the UK are not claiming Pension Credit. This figure represents a significant portion of those who are entitled to this benefit but have not applied, often due to a lack of awareness or misconceptions about their eligibility.
This unclaimed benefit is a concern because it not only means that many pensioners are missing out on extra income, but it also means they could be losing access to other benefits linked to Pension Credit, such as help with housing costs, council tax, health expenses and possibly the Winter Fuel Allowance.
